Research Integrity Officer

Dr. Jim Fuller, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, has agreed to add the function of Research Integrity Officer to his ex officio duties as Chair of the Institutional Review Board for the present. Due to the growth of undergraduate and graduate research at IWU, the Provost's office will ask for a conversation with appropriate faculty and administrative leaders to address four issues: (1) The increasing workflow of the IRB because of increased research, (2) the function and make-up of the Animal Welfare Committee that oversees the proper treatment of animals used in research, (3) the function and assignment of a Research Integrity Officer, and (4) measures to assess and insure the overall quality of research being produced at IWU.

This is very welcome news. At this time we do not have a functioning Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC).
Last week we sent Dr. Mark Asnicar to an ACUC conference. We hope that he will return with the information we need to get this committee up and running. Matthew Kreitzer has applied for an NSF grant (collaboration with University of Illinois School of Medicine) and we should hear from them in the next 30 days or so.

Thank you.

It will probably be Dr. Asnicar, but I will let you know when the time comes. BTW - Matt did not get the NSF grant in this cycle, but he did receive good scores and encouraging comments. He plans to resubmit.
