CAS Interim Administrative Coverage

Dr. Bence and Dr. Lightfoot are within days of completing their tenure in their respective administrative positions in the College of Arts and Sciences Academic Affairs Office. Further, while Dr. Dwight Jessup is available from time to time through visits and email, he will not be officially “on duty” until the first part of August.

I wish to take all appropriate steps to minimize the confusion that might arise during this transition time. To that end, here is the process that we will follow to provide interim academic administrative coverage for this office.

First, from the end of June until Dr. Jessup begins his duties in August I will function as the acting Vice President and Dean for CAS. This will give me a very good opportunity to learn about the CAS workflow. I promise to be accessible and available to you on a timely basis so that the workflow does not break down. Michelle Mowat and Pam Sempel will continue to handle the normal workflow for the respective offices of Dr. Bence and Dr. Lightfoot. Please continue to work with them as normal. They will, in turn, refer things to me as needed.

Second, Dr. Garner, Dr. Hoffman, and I agreed that we will insure that one of us will be available each week as “administrator on duty” for that week. Obviously, Dr. Garner and Dr. Lightfoot will continue to cover their own duties. I am not asking them to pick up the workload of Dr. Bence and Dr. Lightfoot, but merely to be available to insure that there is always an administrater on duty in the office during this interim time. We have assigned ourselves the following weeks to begin with. The three of us will consult as needed.

Thus, for the next several weeks, please continue to send items to the same office as before. Michelle Mowat and Pam Sempel will process items as normal and contact me, or the appropriate administrator on duty as needed.
